Sazerac Rye Whiskey is the one and only New Orleans original — a fragrance of clove, sweet vanilla, anise, and pepper, with subtle notes of candied spice and crisp citrus on the palate, finishing big with smooth hints of liquorice. The spirit that fuelled the whiskey culture of New Orleans, established the first American cocktail, and carries the unrestrained taste and character of the Big Easy in every pour.

Appearance

Deep amber with warm golden hues — the rich, inviting colour of a New Orleans rye whiskey of genuine character and the assertive, spicy depth that the Mississippi River trade and the French Quarter saloons demanded.

Aroma

Clove, sweet vanilla, anise, and pepper — the classic Sazerac aromatic profile, spicy and assertive, with the warm, inviting complexity that made rye whiskey the spirit of choice in 19th century New Orleans.

Palate

Subtle notes of candied spice and crisp citrus — finishing big with smooth hints of liquorice and the unrestrained character of New Orleans in every sip. Spicy, assertive, and deeply satisfying. The original. The one and only.

Serving Suggestion

In a classic Sazerac — rye whiskey, absinthe rinse, Peychaud’s bitters, and a lemon twist in a chilled rocks glass — as the French Quarter intended. Or neat, to let the clove, vanilla, anise, and pepper speak for themselves. The first American cocktail deserves the original spirit.

Producer History

In the 19th century, industrious farmers and distillers in the heartland of the United States barrelled and shipped their rye whiskeys down the great Mississippi River to the bustling, growing city of New Orleans. These spicy and assertive spirits fuelled the whiskey culture of the Big Easy and established the first American cocktail — The Sazerac. Born in the French Quarter at a time when saloons, veiled as coffee houses, lined the streets of New Orleans, the drink of choice at the famed Sazerac Coffee House became a libation of rye whiskey, absinthe, and bitters. With that, the first branded cocktail — the Sazerac — was born. Sazerac Rye Whiskey carries that history, that culture, and the unrestrained taste and character of New Orleans in every bottle.
