Meletti Fernet is the revival of an ancient recipe first presented by Silvio Meletti himself at the Paris Exhibition of 1878 — over 155 years later, the Meletti family has brought it back to life in an indissoluble bond between past and present. Dark amber in colour, herbaceous and balsamic on the nose, with a spiced opening on the palate that evolves through the balsamic freshness of mint before closing with the characteristic bitterness of gentian. The finish is very long, persistent, clean, and balanced — the unmistakable signature of a Meletti liqueur. Produced at 40% alcohol with an indefinite shelf life.

Appearance

Dark amber with a rich, luminous depth — the hallmark colour of a carefully crafted fernet.

Aroma

Herbaceous and balsamic, with the complexity of a botanical recipe refined over more than a century and a half. Inviting, aromatic, and distinctly Italian in character.

Palate

A spiced opening evolves gracefully through the balsamic freshness of mint, before closing with the characteristic and satisfying bitterness of gentian. The finish is very long, persistent, clean, and beautifully balanced — the signature of the Meletti house style at its most assured.

Serving Suggestions

Best enjoyed neat or over ice, or as a coffee correction — the classic Italian after-dinner ritual. Mix with cola for a refreshing long drink, or lengthen with soda or tonic water. An excellent base for cocktails of all persuasions. Indefinite shelf life.

Production Notes

Meletti Fernet is produced from an ancient recipe first presented by Silvio Meletti at the Paris International Exhibition of 1878, now revived by the fifth-generation Meletti family to the same exacting artisanal standards that define every expression in the range. The recipe draws on a carefully selected blend of herbs, roots, and botanicals — including gentian and mint — processed using the traditional techniques that have remained unchanged at the Meletti distillery in Ascoli Piceno since the company’s founding in 1870. Alcohol: 40% | Shelf life: indefinite.

Producer History

The Silvio Meletti Company was founded in 1870 in Ascoli Piceno, Le Marche, by Silvio Meletti — a self-taught distiller who learned the craft from his mother and went on to build one of Italy’s most celebrated liqueur houses. Drawing on 18th-century French distillation treatises, Silvio perfected recipes and techniques that remain in use to this day. His ambition took Meletti to the world stage, earning international recognition at exhibitions across Europe — including gold medals in Ostend, Turin, Athens, and Brussels — and the coveted royal patent of ‘Supplier of the Royal House’ granted by King Umberto I. In 1918 he became the first Knight of Labour of Ascoli Piceno. Today, more than 155 years after its founding, the Meletti Company remains entirely family-owned and in its fifth generation of stewardship, producing spirits of exceptional quality and authenticity for a global market — and reviving ancient recipes, like this Fernet, that deserve to be tasted once more.
