M. Chapoutier Pie VI 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape displays a deep ruby hue. On the nose, it reveals ripe fruit, spice, and bitter cocoa aromas, with blackberry jelly and aromatic herbs unfolding after breathing. The palate is smooth with velvety tannins, offering a harmonious blend of concentration and complexity. Flavours of liqueur and rich fruit transition to subtle hints of soft spice and dark chocolate on the finish.

Winery & Vintage Info

As its name implies, the history of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape commune and its wine are strongly tied to papal history. In 1308, Pope Clément V, archbishop of Bordeaux, moved the papacy to Avignon. Some years later, under the reign of Pope Jean XXII, the wines came to be known as "Wines of the Pope". This term later became Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Jean XXII was responsible for the construction of the Château which is the symbol of the appellation.

Mainly Grenache with Syrah (15%). The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum maturity. A blend of 3 soil sectors: low terraces of the Rhône, ancient alluvium, pebbles on Cretaceous marl.

Vinification in small concrete vats with 30% whole grapes. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and moderate use of sulphur. The temperature of vinification does not exceed 28°C. Maceration for 3 to 4 weeks with very limited intervention.

Aged in unlined concrete vats for approximately 20 months.
