Tasting Notes

Appearance

Luminous pale gold with brilliant clarity and aquamarine-toned glass bottle featuring golden accents, reflecting Italian art and history with a handcrafted cap that pays homage to ancient Rome.

Aroma

The nose reveals vibrant Calabrian bergamot with bright citrus notes, complemented by delicate chamomile, lavender, and rose petals. Hints of Italian cedro, Sicilian lemon, and Mediterranean herbs add complexity, whilst the aromatic profile remains fresh, floral, and inviting, capturing the essence of Italian morning dew ('ros olis') when ingredients were traditionally harvested at peak flavour concentration.

Palate

Elegant and refined, the palate delivers a beautiful balance of bergamot, citrus, and floral notes with subtle herbal undertones. The liqueur's structure showcases the historic Rosolio tradition, once served as 'Aperitivo di Corte' to the King of Savoia before the appearance of Vermouth and Amaro in Italy. Notes of chamomile, rose, lavender, and gentle spice create layers of sophistication, whilst the smooth texture and moderate sweetness provide perfect balance. The finish is clean and refreshing with lingering bergamot and floral notes, making this aperitif ideal for classic Italian cocktails and creative mixology.

Production Notes

Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto is crafted using the historic Rosolio tradition, a method that predates the appearance of Vermouth and Amaro in Italy. The name 'Rosolio' derives from the Latin 'ros olis', meaning 'morning dew', given because farmers would harvest the ingredients early in the morning when the concentration of flavour was at its highest and the crops were heavy with dew. This premium Italian aperitif features Calabrian bergamot as its signature ingredient, complemented by a carefully selected blend of Italian botanicals including chamomile, lavender, rose petals, Italian cedro, and Sicilian lemon. The production process honours traditional methods whilst incorporating modern distillation techniques to create a refined, elegant liqueur. The distinctive aquamarine-toned glass bottle with golden accents on the label pays strong homage to Italian art and history, starting from ancient Rome, showcased in the handcrafted cap. Each element of the production reflects Italian excellence and craftsmanship, from the selection of premium botanicals to the elegant presentation that celebrates Italy's rich cultural heritage.

Heritage & Design

Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto celebrates a rich Italian heritage, as Rosolio was historically the main drink enjoyed by the King of Savoia and often served as 'Aperitivo di Corte' (Court Aperitif) before the rise of modern Italian spirits. To commemorate the brand's anniversary (launched on 1st September 2016), Italicus collaborated with Pininfarina, the world-renowned Italian design house, to create ARCO ITALICUS—a limited-edition glorifier inspired by the bottle's architectural design. The arch ('ARCO' in Italian) is an architectural statement symbolising the connection between past and present, classic and modern, representing Italy's iconic monuments including the Colosseo in Rome and the Ponte di Rialto in Venice. The collaboration showcases both brands' commitment to innovation and Italian style, with the packaging crafted from recycled materials and brass-coloured elements that evoke elegance. The base depicts the shape of bergamotto, Italicus's signature ingredient, whilst a beam of light reflected on the bottle accentuates its unique shape and conveys a sense of purity, framing the liqueur within a triumphal arch that materialises Italian elegance into an impactful statement.
