Distillery Info

When Hillmartin Distillery embarked on their mission to make everyone a gin lover, they wanted to create a range of gins from the traditional London Dry gin style through to more contemporary flavours that have seen the gin industry explode to where it is today.

With a couple of contemporary gins under their belt, they thought it was time to make a gin that traditional gin drinkers would love. Gavin their distiller wanted to create a recipe that included all the components of a London Dry style, and at the last minute decided to add navel oranges anticipating they would provide a soft warm undertone to the gin.

Tasting the gin as it was coming out of the still was nothing like a London Dry and to their delight it tasted soft, smooth and full of flavour. They knew they were onto a winner, so they entered the HM No. 5 Orange Squeeze Gin into the International Gin Awards in London where it was awarded Bronze in January 2022.

For the base of the Orange Squeeze, they use the highest purity alcohol available in Australia and doubled the quantity of Juniper berries that is typically used in their gins. Bringing out the big juniper taste. They further added coriander seeds, cinnamon, cassia sticks and finely cut locally grown lemon and anise myrtles to the mix. Oh and of course some fresh navel oranges.

The botanical basket is also filled with fresh navel oranges to further infuse the gin vapours. With so much orange there is no wonder the Orange Squeeze tastes as it does. The resultant concentrated gin has a very smooth and rounded taste with a navel orange finish. It comes out of the still with an average alcohol by volume (ABV) of 79%. The gin is then stored in stainless-steel tanks and after some time is diluted to 43% ABV for bottling.

This gin is an award winner and the most popular gin in their range. The Orange Squeeze stands on its own and you’ll know why once you taste it. Drink this gin neat over ice, or pair with tonic or soda and a slice of orange to garnish.
