Clase Azul Guerrero Mezcal is an artisanal mezcal crafted from papalote agave — also known as agave cupreata — native to the humid highlands of Guerrero in Mexico’s south. A unique species that draws influence from the region’s coastal landscape and verdant forests, the papalote agave is milled entirely by hand rather than by donkey and tahona or mechanical mill — a manual process said to retain more of the plant’s flavours while adding length and body to the distillate. Grapefruit zest, freshly cut wood, rosemary, and toasted peanuts on the nose, with hints of butter and daisies, and a palate of seaweed, lemon juice, pepper, and light tobacco. Kosher certified.

Appearance

Clear and bright — the pure, unaged character of an artisanal mezcal of genuine terroir and distinction, from the humid highlands of Guerrero.

Aroma

Grapefruit zest, freshly cut wood, rosemary, and toasted peanuts lead a complex and expressive nose, with hints of butter and daisies adding a delicate floral softness that speaks of the papalote agave’s unique character and the coastal landscape of Guerrero.

Palate

Seaweed, lemon juice, pepper, and light tobacco deliver a palate of genuine depth and regional distinction — the hand-milling of the agave adding length and body to a distillate of extraordinary character. Try pairing with fresh goat’s cheese or white chocolate for a truly memorable experience.

Pairs With

Fresh goat’s cheese, white chocolate, grilled seafood, and light coastal dishes. A mezcal that reflects the terroir of Guerrero’s coastal highlands in every sip.

The Bottle

The Clase Azul Guerrero decanter features a vibrant cap handcrafted with beautiful representations of hummingbirds, lacquered by artisans using traditional techniques. Due to its technical and material complexity, artisans dedicate up to ten days to the creation of each cap — making every bottle of Clase Azul Guerrero a one-of-a-kind piece of Mexican artistry.

Care note: Due to the matte textured finish on these decanters, they are sensitive to touch and may show minor scuff marks — this is unavoidable. The producers recommend rinsing under running water to maintain the finish. Avoid using rags or paper products to clean the decanter.

Producer History

Clase Azul stands at the intersection of handcrafted tradition and luxury storytelling — born in the highlands of Jalisco, where every bottle is a showcase of not just exceptional tequila and mezcal, but of Mexican ceramic artistry. The signature decanter, shaped and painted by hand, is as recognisable as the spirit inside. Over 100 artisans in the small Mexican town of Santa Maria Canchesda dedicate their time to creating each bottle one at a time — because at Clase Azul, it’s about time, technique, and terroir.
