Winemaking Notes

The soil is cultivated traditionally without using any herbicide. In order to avoid wind erosion, a rye cover protects the soil from October to May, with more than 5,000 sheep pasturing throughout the winter. Following the new techniques and developments of recent years, these vineyards adopted the precise viticulture methods that logically led to organic wine production. All the products used are natural, with the goal to constantly watch over the well-being of the soil, plants and animals, thereby promoting the health of the ecosystem. The juice obtained after pressing Grenache gris has a unique 'pink grey' colour. The winemaking focuses on preserving the delicate aromatics and creating wines with the extremely low acidity characteristic of Sable de Camargue protected geographic indication.

Vintage Conditions

The 2023 vintage in Sable de Camargue benefited from the region's unique terroir and Mediterranean climate. The vines of Domaine Royal de Jarras, which survived the phylloxera epidemic that originated in 1863, are rooted in sandy Camargue soils that produce wines with extremely low acidity. The 800 hectares of certified organic Camargue vineyards are managed to ensure the vines grow in harmony with the natural landscape, protecting both the vineyard and its surrounding environment. The traditional soil cultivation without herbicides, combined with natural rye cover and sheep pasturing, creates a healthy ecosystem that produces exceptional fruit. The Grenache gris vines thrive in this environment, developing the distinctive white-fleshed fruit flavours and refreshing saline character that define this unique gris de gris rosé.
