The 2023 Yarra Valley Pinot from Coldstream Hills has light-medium cherry crimson colour. Highly perfumed and beautifully integrated, notes of raspberry, sour cherry, and wild strawberry dance, with underlying French oak, rose petal spice and a hint of mineral graphite. Elegantly framed and textural, with beautifully balanced acidity, length, and a fine silky tannin finish. Raspberry and strawberry characters dominate with underlying sour cherry, hints of whole bunch spice and subtle French oak adding structure and complexity. An excellent vintage.

Winery & Vintage Info

Coldstream Hills was established in 1985 by James and Suzanne Halliday and has since grown to become one of Australia's leading and most awarded small wineries. Situated in the picturesque Yarra Valley east of Melbourne, the steep close- planted vineyards of Coldstream Hills have become a signature of the region. So too have its wines, which reflect regional character, consistency, and style.

Sourced from low yielding vineyards in the Lower and Upper Yarra Valley, all fruit is selectively picked prior to its delivery into the winery. The Lower Yarra provides dark cherry notes and structure, the Upper Yarra complements with elegance, spice, and perfume. The wine is made using a variety of handling and fermentation techniques, including the use of whole bunches. Each batch is then matured in seasoned and new oak for up to nine months, prior to blending and bottling.

A challenging Spring across most vineyards with high rainfall and cold, wet conditions during flowering. Summer began with high humidity, but gradually eased to a mostly dry and stable weather pattern. A relatively late start to harvest with gentle ripening of flavours and excellent acid retention.

Matured in seasoned and new (20.9%) French oak barriques for eight months.
