Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale straw with brilliant clarity and greenish reflections, displaying the pristine character of cool-climate Tasmanian Riesling with light, elegant viscosity.

Aroma

Lively and aromatic, the nose opens with bright mandarin and lime citrus notes, beautifully complemented by delicate honeysuckle florals. The wine's careful winemaking preserves the purity of fruit expression whilst allowing subtle mineral undertones to emerge.

Palate

Medium-bodied with a velvety texture that belies its zesty, energetic character. Vibrant citrus flavours meld with sherbet-like intensity, whilst chalky phenolics from the limestone soils provide elegant structure and definition. The bright, crisp acidity drives through to a long, refreshing finish. Time in bottle has crafted flawless balance between fruity flavours and tangy precision, with exceptional cellaring potential of up to 20 years.

Pairs With

This versatile Tasmanian Riesling pairs beautifully with freshly shucked oysters or grilled prawns, kingfish ceviche or sashimi, cured fish, pork belly with pickled radish, and pickled vegetables, making it an outstanding choice for seafood and Asian-inspired cuisine.

Winery & Vintage Info

Vintage Conditions

The 2022 vintage benefited from Southern Tasmania's cool-climate conditions, allowing the Riesling grapes to develop exceptional intensity and definition whilst retaining delicacy. Grown on a north-facing bank of the Derwent River in a 30-year-old vineyard, the fruit was hand-picked on three separate days to capture distinct flavour profiles: lean and tight, citrus-driven, and soft. The Riesling block sits on the uppermost slope where shallow, permeable loams over limestone provide ideal terroir for this noble variety.

Winemaking Notes

The winemaking approach prioritises purity and precision. Grapes were pressed under inert gas, with juice fermented within 24 hours of harvest without chilling or reheating. Fermentation took place using cultured yeast at extremely cool temperatures below 10°C over 30–35 days, preserving the wine's vibrant aromatics and delicate fruit character. The wine was stabilised, lightly fined, filtered, and bottled within 90 days from harvest, ensuring maximum freshness and varietal expression.
