Bream Creek Vineyard Riesling 2025 is a pristine Tasmanian Riesling from one of the oldest vineyards on Tasmania’s east coast — established in 1974 on a north-east ridge overlooking Marion Bay and the Tasman Sea, where cool maritime conditions, long sunny summers, and an extended autumn ripening period produce fruit of exceptional intensity and focus. Fragrant, dry, and deeply mineral, this is a Riesling that can be enjoyed immediately or cellared with confidence for up to ten years.

Appearance

Pale straw with a bright, luminous clarity — the hallmark of a cool-climate Tasmanian Riesling of exceptional precision.

Aroma

Lifted and fragrant — lime blossom, orange blossom, green apple, and nashi pear lead, with ripe lime and lemon pith adding citrus depth and wet stone minerality providing a distinctive and compelling cool-climate character.

Palate

Crisp and vibrant, mirroring the nose with a saline streak and a hint of kaffir lime leaf that lifts the fruit beautifully. Orange peel and subtle pineapple notes add mid-palate interest, whilst bright acidity keeps the wine precise and focused. The texture is sleek, with a chalky, citrus-driven finish of excellent length and a distinct minerality from the wet-stone soils of the east coast.

Pairs With

A brilliant match for fresh local seafood — grilled Tasmanian flathead or lemon-dressed oysters are the natural choice. Also exceptional with spicy Asian salads, goat’s cheese tartlets, and delicate white fish dishes.

Winemaking Notes

The Bream Creek Riesling is made from fruit grown on vertical-shoot positioned vines, with pruning and picking performed entirely by hand. The vineyard produces small berries and modest bunch sizes, resulting in very modest yields that enhance the varietal characteristics ideal for truly cool-climate winemaking. The soils are deep brown to black clay loams, with small stones on higher ground — a combination that contributes the distinctive wet-stone minerality that defines this wine’s character and its capacity to age.

Vintage Conditions

The 2025 vintage from Tasmania’s east coast delivered Riesling of exceptional intensity and focus — the long, mild season featuring cool, frost-free springs, long sunny summer days moderated by gentle sea breezes from Marion Bay and the Tasman Sea, and an extended autumn ripening period that enhanced flavour development and preserved the bright natural acidity that gives this wine its precision, length, and cellaring potential of up to ten years.

Producer History

Bream Creek Vineyard was established in 1974 on Tasmania’s east coast — one of the oldest vineyards in the state, initially comprising five hectares planted primarily with Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon. In August 1990, Fred Peacock acquired the vineyard and set about expanding the Pinot Noir plantings whilst introducing Sauvignon Blanc and Schönburger — a rare German varietal with one of the earliest commercial plantings in the Southern Hemisphere. Situated on a north-east ridge overlooking Marion Bay and the Tasman Sea, the vineyard benefits from the gently sloping terrain, coastal location, and maritime influence that provide optimal ripening conditions for premium cool-climate fruit. Through Fred’s dedication and passion, Bream Creek has become one of Tasmania’s most respected and distinctive producers — a vineyard that exemplifies the varieties ideally suited to the cool maritime climate of the east coast.
