Teremana Small Batch Tequila — The Spirit of the Earth

Teremana Small Batch Tequila is one of the world's most celebrated and fastest-growing ultra-premium tequila brands — a spirit of genuine quality, craftsmanship, and authenticity that has earned a devoted global following since its launch. Founded by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and crafted in the Jalisco Highlands of Mexico by a team of expert distillers using traditional methods and the finest hand-selected agave, Teremana is a tequila that takes its name, its philosophy, and its character from the land itself.

The Name & The Story

The name Teremana is derived from two words: Tera — from the Latin for ‘earth’ — and Mana — a Polynesian word for ‘spirit’ or ‘spiritual power’. Together, they form a name that speaks to the brand's deepest conviction: that the finest tequila is a spirit of the earth — born of the land, shaped by the hands of those who tend it, and carrying within it the character and energy of the place from which it comes.

Dwayne Johnson founded Teremana with a clear and personal vision: to create a tequila of genuine quality and authenticity that embodies the spirit of celebration, camaraderie, and connection. The brand's commitment to sustainability and community involvement — from the agave fields to the distillery — reflects Johnson's belief that a great spirit should make a positive impact on the environment and the lives of the people involved in its production, not merely on the palates of those who drink it.

The Region: Jalisco Highlands, Mexico

Teremana is crafted in a small town in the Jalisco Highlands — the Los Altos region of Jalisco state in western Mexico, at elevations of 2,000 metres or more above sea level. The Jalisco Highlands are one of the world's most celebrated and distinctive tequila-producing regions, producing agave of a distinctly different character from the lowland Jalisco regions: the high altitude, the red clay soils, and the cooler temperatures of the Highlands produce Blue Weber agave plants that are larger, sweeter, and more aromatic than their lowland counterparts, with a characteristic floral, fruity, and citrus-forward flavour profile that is the hallmark of the Highland tequila style.

The Blue Weber agave — the only variety permitted in the production of tequila — takes between seven and ten years to reach full maturity in the Jalisco Highlands, during which time the plant accumulates the sugars, flavour compounds, and aromatic complexity that will define the character of the tequila distilled from it. Teremana uses only hand-selected agave plants, harvested at the peak of maturity by skilled jimadores — the traditional agave harvesters whose expertise and knowledge of the plant is passed down through generations.

Production: Brick Oven, Open Tank & Copper Pot Still

Teremana's production process is a deliberate and thoughtful combination of traditional methods and small-batch craftsmanship that sets it apart from the industrial-scale production that characterises many commercial tequila brands.

The harvested agave piñas — the heart of the agave plant, stripped of its leaves by the jimadores — are roasted for three full days in traditional brick ovens. This slow, patient roasting process — in contrast to the faster autoclave steam-cooking used by many commercial producers — allows the agave's natural sugars to caramelise and develop fully, bringing out the bright citrus flavours and the characteristic sweetness that define the Teremana style. The brick oven roasting is one of the most important and distinctive elements of the Teremana production process, and it is central to the fresh, vibrant, and genuinely agave-forward character of the final spirit.

After roasting, the agave is fermented in open tanks — a traditional method that allows the natural yeasts of the distillery environment to contribute to the fermentation, adding complexity and character to the fermenting must. The open tank fermentation is a mark of the distillery's commitment to traditional methods and the genuine expression of the Jalisco Highlands terroir.

Distillation takes place in handmade copper pot stills — the traditional method of tequila distillation that produces a spirit of greater flavour complexity and character than the column stills used by many commercial producers. The copper pot stills remove sulphur compounds from the spirit during distillation, contributing to the characteristic smoothness and purity of the Teremana style.

Our Range

Teremana Blanco 700mL — 40% ABV — The purest and most immediate expression of the Teremana style — an unaged tequila that goes directly from the copper pot still to the bottle, preserving the full, vibrant character of the brick oven-roasted Jalisco Highlands agave without the influence of oak. Bright citrus notes on the nose and palate, with the characteristic freshness and smooth finish that comes from the three-day brick oven roasting and the handmade copper pot still distillation. Outstanding neat in a shot glass, in a classic Margarita, or in a Paloma — the Blanco's vibrant citrus character makes it one of the most versatile and enjoyable tequilas for cocktail making.

Teremana Reposado 700mL — 40% ABV — The Blanco rested in oak barrels for six to twelve months — the minimum ageing period required for a tequila to be classified as Reposado (‘rested’ in Spanish). The oak ageing adds notes of vanilla and warm oak to the vibrant citrus and agave character of the Blanco, creating a tequila of greater smoothness, balance, and complexity. Notes of oak and vanilla on the nose and palate, with a smooth and rich finish. Outstanding neat over a single ice cube, in a Tequila Old Fashioned, or in a premium Margarita where the oak character adds an additional layer of complexity.

Teremana Añejo 700mL — 40% ABV — The most aged and complex expression of the Teremana range — a tequila aged for a minimum of one year in oak barrels, developing the rich, warm, and deeply complex character that defines the Añejo (‘aged’) style. Rich warm oak, vanilla, and roasted agave on the nose, with a lightly sweet and complex finish that speaks of the patient oak ageing and the extraordinary quality of the Jalisco Highlands agave. A tequila to be savoured slowly — neat in a crystal rocks glass or with a single ice cube — in appreciation of the craftsmanship and patience that have produced it.

How to Enjoy Teremana Tequila

The Blanco is the most versatile expression — outstanding in a classic Margarita (50mL Teremana Blanco, 25mL fresh lime juice, 20mL triple sec, shaken over ice and strained into a salt-rimmed glass) or a Paloma (50mL Teremana Blanco, grapefruit soda, fresh lime, over ice in a tall glass with a salt rim). The Reposado is outstanding in a Tequila Old Fashioned (50mL Teremana Reposado, sugar syrup, Angostura bitters, orange peel, over a large ice cube) or sipped slowly neat. The Añejo is best enjoyed neat in a rocks glass or with a single large ice cube — a tequila to be savoured slowly in appreciation of its extraordinary depth and complexity.
