Maturation for 18 months in French oak hogshead barrels has assisted in the development of a wine that shows vibrancy and richness. All Zema Estate wines are estate grown and vintaged, reflecting the family’s commitment to hand-crafted Coonawarra winemaking since 1982. The Zema family is proudly traditional in its approach to vineyard practices, favouring hand pruning and limited irrigation to maximise fruit quality across three strategically selected prime vineyard locations. Technical details: Alc/Vol 14.8% · pH 3.60 · Acidity 6.9 g/L.

Vintage Conditions

Coonawarra is renowned for its remarkable terra rossa soil — a thin one-metre band of red earth overlaying a deep formation of limestone — which is directly responsible for the region’s signature Cabernet Sauvignon character of blackcurrant, plum, mint and menthol. The Zema family’s three strategically selected prime vineyard locations capitalise on the region’s subtle climatic variations, with hand pruning and limited irrigation ensuring maximum fruit quality and concentration. Coonawarra’s cool maritime climate, moderated by proximity to the Southern Ocean, provides the long, even ripening season that allows Cabernet Sauvignon to develop exceptional depth of flavour whilst retaining the natural acidity and fine tannin structure that define the region’s most cellar-worthy reds. The 2021 vintage delivered the conditions that Coonawarra Cabernet thrives in, producing fruit of outstanding depth and vibrancy.
