Winemaking Notes
The Tamburlaine Sauvignon Blanc 2025 exemplifies the winery's Contemporary Organics vision, which has been at the heart of Tamburlaine since Managing Director and Chief Winemaker Mark Davidson purchased the Hunter Valley winery in 1985. After years of challenging research and development, Tamburlaine has become one of Australia's largest producers of organic wines, with vineyards spanning the Hunter Valley and Orange regions. Named after Christopher Marlowe's famous play and character 'Tamburlaine the Great', the winery leads the way in producing award-winning organic, vegan-friendly, low-sulphur and no-added-sulphur wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is crafted entirely without added preservatives, reflecting Mark Davidson's long-term winemaking philosophy of Contemporary Organic practices in both vineyard and winery. The fruit for the 2025 vintage was sourced from certified organic vineyards in the Lower Murray Darling and Orange regions of New South Wales, combining the quality and character of these distinct terroirs. The winemaking approach prioritised preserving the wine's natural purity and vibrant fruit expression, with careful handling throughout to maintain the delicate aromatics and fresh acidity that define this pristine, preservative-free expression.

Vintage Conditions
The 2025 vintage in the Lower Murray Darling and Orange regions of New South Wales delivered excellent quality fruit for Sauvignon Blanc production. Harvesting commenced in mid-February under favourable conditions, with the fruit arriving at the winery in pristine condition—crucial for producing wine without added preservatives. The growing season provided ideal conditions for developing the bright citrus and tropical fruit character that defines this wine, with the grapes achieving optimal ripeness whilst retaining the natural acidity essential for freshness and longevity. The organic vineyard management practices employed across both regions ensured healthy, balanced vines that produced fruit of exceptional purity and concentration. The combination of the Lower Murray Darling's warm climate and Orange's cool-climate influence created a wine of remarkable complexity, with the delicate lemon blossom and passionfruit aromatics balanced by refreshing acidity. The quality of the certified organic fruit allowed the winemaking team to craft a wine of outstanding natural expression, showcasing Tamburlaine's commitment to Contemporary Organics and demonstrating that wines made without added preservatives can deliver exceptional quality, complexity and longevity.
