It is one of the most visually extraordinary Cognacs in the world, housed in the iconic Baccarat crystal decanter that is as much a collector’s treasure as the exceptional liquid it contains.

Hundreds of aromas unfold from the exceptional blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie sourced 100% from Grande Champagne, the first cru of the Cognac region. The aromatics are profound, layered and endlessly revealing — a bouquet of rare and timeless distinction that rewards slow, contemplative appreciation.

Palate

The palate is a succession of sensations of extraordinary depth, complexity and harmony — intense aromas that persist for more than one hour, with a smooth, balanced and timeless character that speaks of decades of ageing and the meticulous blending of up to 1,200 distinct eaux-de-vie. The finish is endlessly long, warm and deeply profound — a Cognac of unparalleled refinement and the very pinnacle of the distiller’s art.

Production Notes

Louis XIII is an exceptional blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie, sourced 100% from Grande Champagne — the first cru of the Cognac region — each selected by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau from barely a dozen approved samples out of some 1,000 submitted for consideration. The grapes are harvested at aromatic maturity and pressed using a traditional press, with pips removed immediately to avoid unwanted tannin. The juice ferments naturally for one to two weeks at low alcohol — always the preferred basis for a superior Cognac. Distillation commences as soon as possible after harvest, never later than the end of March, always twice with the lees. From the heart of the second distillation at 70% alcohol comes the fiery young spirit that may — after one hundred years — become Louis XIII. This succession of blends creates a balance between hundreds of aromas, contributing to the smooth harmony and timeless character that define every decanter of Louis XIII.

History

The story of Louis XIII is one of extraordinary patience, vision and dedication. Each decanter represents the life’s work of four generations of Cellar Masters — men and women who plant vines they will never see harvested, distil eaux-de-vie they will never see blended, and blend Cognacs they will never see bottled. Founded on the philosophy that an eau-de-vie carries an infallible record of the entire life of the grape from beginning to end, Louis XIII is the ultimate expression of this belief — a Cognac that takes up to one hundred years to create, sourced exclusively from the Grande Champagne crus of Cognac, France, and presented in an iconic Baccarat crystal decanter that is itself a work of art. Truly, the pinnacle of the Cognac world.
