The nose on the 2021 Pertaringa Rifle & Hunt Cabernet by Bec Hardy is rich and earthy, with blackcurrants, redcurrants, dried herbs, and a hint of spice. The palate is elegant and complex, with luscious berry flavours, followed by excellent structure and a long finish.

Try with slow cooked lamb shanks with truffle-infused polenta.

The Hardy name has been synonymous with South Australian wine since the 1850s and Bec Hardy continues that tradition with Pertaringa, building on the experience and reputation of her predecessors with a modern twist on 170 years of winemaking heritage.

Bec is now making her own way in the Australian wine world with her own strategic approach to brand and business growth. Established in 2015, Bec Hardy Wines is a family-owned wine business based in McLaren Vale, South Australia.

Rifle and Hunt sounds like the beginning of a tale from an early hunting expedition, but the story is really not that complicated. It's more like directions rather than a name, with the Pertaringa property being on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale.

Great winter rainfall during 2020 ensured the vines were off to a fantastic start for the 2021 vintage. The weather during flowering was mild and not too windy, which lead to great fruit set. There was a major rain event in February, but the dry weather following this ensured disease didn’t become a problem. The weather stayed mild and dry throughout harvest, the yields were higher than the past few years and the quality was fantastic.

Crushed and de-stemmed. Open 5 tonne capacity stainless steel fermenter. Yeast type: FX10. 8 days on skins. French Oak Hogsheads, 20% new oak for 19 months.
