Winemaking Notes

Only made in small quantities and from exceptional sites, 'The Fog' Nebbiolo is Tar & Roses' flagship wine and the inspiration behind their name. Fresh cherries and cranberry intertwine in this young wine, with dried herb, rose, anise and earthy clay appearing alongside a touch of kirsch, all supported by fine, structured tannins and fresh acidity. With time, expect to see more bottle age characters develop. Nebbiolo is a thin-skinned variety known for its unusually light colour and deceptively high level of tannins. In fertile soils it can produce large crops with large bunches and berries. The Pyrenees vineyard, whilst close to the rich deep Cambrian vein of soil, is tempered by harder granite gravels that has seen the vines produce a more balanced canopy to crop ratio. The balanced crop level has meant even ripening and minimal disease pressures, allowing acclaimed winemaker Narelle King to craft this exceptional flagship Nebbiolo that showcases the quality and character of the Pyrenees.

Vintage Conditions

The 2024 vintage in the Pyrenees produced ideal conditions for Nebbiolo, allowing the fruit from the granite gravel-tempered vineyard to develop fresh cherries and cranberry whilst maintaining the fresh acidity that defines this exceptional flagship style.
