Winemaking Notes

Mollydooker The Boxer Shiraz 2024 is sourced from twelve premium vineyards across McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek — Home Blocks, Reedy Creek, Seaview Road, Mongrel Hill, Coppermine Road, Aldinga Road, Ryan Road, Birchmore, Hawthorn Ridge, Joppich, Semmens and Blue Vineyard. The Boxer has been barrel fermented and matured in 100% American oak, using 38% new, 49% one-year-old and 13% two-year-old barrels. This careful combination of oak ages delivers the wine's signature velvety texture with notes of fresh plum, balanced tannins and a subtle touch of toasted oak, all enhancing the richness of the dark fruit, black cherry and mocha character. ‘Mollydooker’ is old Aussie slang for a left-handed boxer — and like its namesake, this wine packs a punch with complex, layered character.

Vintage Conditions

McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek are two of South Australia’s most celebrated red wine regions, each contributing distinct character to The Boxer Shiraz. McLaren Vale’s Mediterranean climate — warm days, cool sea breezes from the Gulf St Vincent and ancient soils — produces Shiraz with rich dark fruit intensity and natural depth. Langhorne Creek, situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula and cooled by Lake Alexandrina, contributes softness, fresh plum and balanced structure to the blend. Together, the two regions create a wine of exceptional complexity and layered character. The 2024 vintage across both regions delivered the warm, dry conditions that Shiraz thrives in, producing fruit with concentrated dark fruit, black cherry and mocha character, balanced by the natural acidity and structure that comes from twelve carefully selected vineyard sites.
