A powerful wine with aromas of black currant, liquorice and earthy leathery notes, the  La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rouge 2018 is complex on the nose and similar on the palate with incredible tannins and structure. The wine is still young and will improve with some time in the cellar, however the delicious jammy fruits and warm spices do make it a beautiful wine to enjoy now.

Winery & Vintage Info

La Bastide Blanche is a small family owned vineyard that started in 1972 and now run by two brothers, Michel & Louis Barza. The beautiful property is located 7 km outside of Saint-Anne de Castelet, on the foothills of the Le Castellet village on the amphitheatre of marl & limestone that put Bandol on the map.

The Estate gained Organic certification in 2012 and now already practising biodynamic viticulture. La Bastide Blanche only focuses on wines from the Bandol AOP and produces white, rose and red. All wines are hand harvested, extremely low yields lead to intense, structured and delicious examples of Bandol.

The Bastide Blanche Rouge makes up 40% of production of the estate, vine age average age of 31 years. 73% of Mourvedre dominates this wine and is blended with Grenache, a little Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan. Again all fruit is hand harvested, handsorted and destemmed. Ferment temperatures are slow and steady to optimise extraction and retain freshness at the same time, around 22 days ferment. Pressed off to vat for malolactic and ageing, combination of barrel and large cuve. The wine spends 18 months in oak before bottling.
