Hentley Farm Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 Barossa Valley showcases exceptional terroir from three hillside vineyard blocks at Seppeltsfield, delivering vibrant blackcurrant, cherry, lavender, and mint notes with impeccable fine-grained tannins.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Deep ruby-red with brilliant clarity and excellent depth, this Barossa Valley Cabernet displays the hallmark intensity expected from the region's finest vineyards. The wine shows excellent viscosity with pronounced legs that hint at its concentrated fruit character.

Aroma

The nose opens with generous blackcurrant and ripe cherry fruit, complemented by elegant herbal notes of lavender and fresh mint. Subtle oak integration adds complexity without overwhelming the pristine fruit expression, whilst hints of cedar and graphite provide additional layers of interest.

Palate

Medium to full-bodied with exceptional balance, the 2024 vintage delivers vibrant fruit flavours that mirror the aromatic profile. Blackcurrant and cherry dominate the mid-palate, supported by fine-grained tannins that provide structure without astringency. The refreshing acidity keeps the wine lively and food-friendly, leading to a persistent finish with lingering fruit and subtle spice notes. Drink now to 2032.

Pairs With

This versatile Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon complements grilled lamb chops, beef Wellington, or aged cheddar beautifully. Try it with mushroom risotto, char-grilled ribeye steak, or slow-cooked beef brisket, where the wine's refined tannins also make it an excellent match for venison or duck breast with berry reduction.

Vineyard: Three blocks from Seppeltsfield with shallow red clay loam over shattered limestone, elevated eastern aspect. Compressed vintage with fast, late ripening curve producing powerful, vibrant wines.

Winemaking Notes

Set amongst the rolling hills on the banks of Greenock Creek at Seppeltsfield, Hentley Farm founder Keith Hentschke went against the grain when selecting three hillside sites to plant Cabernet, and the risk has paid off. All with an easterly aspect and minimal topsoil, the vineyard produces bright fruit for this varietal, aromatic and delicately balanced; distinctive of the estate. The three blocks feature very shallow red clay loam overlying shattered limestone with north-south oriented rows and an elevated eastern aspect, resulting in reduced natural vine vigour that creates intense and vibrant fruit.

Vintage Conditions

The 2024 vintage experienced below-average rainfall throughout winter, spring, summer, and autumn, combined with a mild spring and early summer with no extreme heat. This created balanced canopies and crop levels across the vineyard. Warm days and cool nights during the growing season led to a compressed vintage with a fast, late ripening curve, ultimately producing powerful wines with exceptional concentration and vibrancy.
