Production Notes

Delord Vieil Armagnac 1983 is produced at the family distillery in Lannepax, Bas-Armagnac, using Colombard, Ugni Blanc, and Folle Blanche grape varieties. Distillation takes place from the beginning of November through to the end of December, using the family’s treasured old Sier Armagnac alambics that produce less than 30 litres of eau-de-vie per hour — a slow, traditional process central to the exceptional quality and complexity of Delord’s Armagnac. The eau-de-vie is then aged in one of more than 700 oak barrels in Delord’s cellars, which protect and age Armagnac dating from the 20th century to the present day. Delord’s vintage Armagnac range is one of the most complete in existence, with vintages from 1900 to 2006. Bottles indicate a bottling date, as it is only age in wood that truly matters.

Producer History

The Delord family distillery in Lannepax has long been dedicated to the pursuit of soft, approachable, and age-worthy vintage Armagnacs — a philosophy expressed through two column stills, one of which is a Sier dating from 1900, both equipped with ‘spider plates’ that are ideally suited to producing eau-de-vie of exceptional finesse and longevity. The majority of fruit is sourced from the family’s 66-hectare vineyard in Bas-Armagnac — of which 6 hectares are farmed organically — with grape varieties remaining true to Armagnac tradition: Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Folle Blanche, and Baco. Bas-Armagnac, the most prestigious of the three Armagnac appellations, is renowned for its sandy sables fauves soils and the exceptional finesse and aromatic complexity they impart to the eau-de-vie. Typically aged for between 5 and 15 years — and sometimes considerably longer — Delord’s vintage-dated Armagnacs are among the finest digestifs in the world, pairing beautifully with a cigar, coffee, desserts, foie gras, and fine food.
