Tasting Notes

Appearance

Chalmers Montevecchio Moscato Frizzante pours a pale, luminous straw with a fine, lively spritz and brilliant clarity. It is made from 100% Moscato Giallo — a clone from north-east Italy prized for its intense florals and elegance — grown on the ancient red Cambrian soils of Heathcote at 150–170 metres elevation.

Aroma

The nose is lifted, fragrant and immediately joyful. Aromas of frangipane, lemon drop, ginger and fresh grape jump out of the glass with effortless charm. This is a wine that speaks of place — of Heathcote’s red Cambrian soil and sensitive farming — expressed through a grape variety that has found a remarkable new home in Victoria.

Palate

Sweet and delicious up front, with the natural sweetness beautifully balanced by crunchy, cleansing acidity. A fine hint of spritz keeps everything lively and refreshing. At just 5.5% alcohol, this is a wine for any time of the day or night. Serve well chilled at 4°C for the best experience.

Pairs With

This Heathcote Moscato Frizzante is a natural companion to a cheese plate, fresh fruit, light pastries, frangipane tart and lemon desserts. It is equally wonderful enjoyed chilled on its own as a refreshing aperitif — perfect for entertaining, gifting and any occasion that calls for something light, fun and fragrant.

Winemaking Notes

At Chalmers, no introduced yeasts have ever been used in the winery. Native yeasts — drawn from a richly diverse population in the vineyards — drive every fermentation, maintaining complexity from vineyard to bottle. The Moscato Giallo fruit is grown on the red Cambrian soils of Heathcote at 150–170 metres, with crop levels managed through pruning to achieve optimum ripeness. Picked with a keen eye on acidity to balance natural sugars, the fruit is fermented on solids in stainless steel, kept cool for a long, slow fermentation and stopped when alcohol and sugar reach perfect balance. The result is a vegan-friendly Moscato Frizzante of exceptional freshness and fragrance at 5.5% ABV. Best cellared for 1–3 years and served at 4°C.

Vintage Conditions

Chalmers Montevecchio Moscato Frizzante is a genuine expression of place. The ancient red Cambrian soils, cool nights and sensitive farming of Heathcote are at the heart of every bottle. Moscato Giallo — a variety that has adapted over thousands of years — has found a remarkable new home here, delivering intense perfumed florals, elegance and palate intensity that are uniquely Heathcote. Chalmers’ winemaking philosophy is simple: a gentle hand, quiet observation and faith in intuition. There is no recipe, only a commitment to coaxing out the most honest and expressive wine the vintage and variety will allow.
