Tasting Notes

Appearance

This distinguished New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc presents a bright, pale straw colour with luminous clarity and youthful brilliance, displaying the exceptional quality characteristic of a wine crafted from over 50 individual parcels of Te Muna fruit — one of Martinborough’s most celebrated and distinctive terroirs, where river stones impart a remarkable saline minerality that sets this wine apart from more conventional expressions of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

Aroma

The nose is refined and immediately captivating, with aromas of white flowers and blossom enfolding freshly cut peaches and passionfruit in a beautifully layered and expressive aromatic profile of genuine elegance and complexity. This extraordinary bouquet transcends the vibrant style New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is known for, reflecting the intense citrus and tropical fruit character of a long ripening season, lifted by herbal notes of exceptional freshness and distinction.

Palate

Bright and expressive on the palate, with fruit and floral notes intertwined with hints of preserved lemon and key lime in exceptional harmony. The wine is fresh, elegant and textural, with a saline minerality imparted by the river stones of Te Muna’s distinctive terroir adding a mineral-driven depth and complexity that is truly reflective of this remarkable site. The finish is long, elegant and deeply satisfying — a Sauvignon Blanc of outstanding refinement and genuine Martinborough character.

Pairs With

This exceptional Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc is a natural companion to fresh oysters, grilled snapper, ceviche, goat’s cheese, asparagus, herb-crusted chicken, or enjoyed chilled on its own as an elegant aperitif, where its saline minerality, preserved lemon and passionfruit character shine with effortless distinction.

Winemaking Notes

Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is crafted from over 50 individual parcels of Te Muna fruit, with 13% hand harvested and each parcel fermented separately to preserve the distinctive character of this exceptional Martinborough terroir. Fermentation vessels include a combination of stainless steel tanks, French and Austrian oak, and amphora — a varied approach that brings layered complexity and textural depth to the finished wine. The wine was predominantly fermented in stainless steel to ensure the floral and stone fruit characters remain expressive, whilst a portion fermented and aged in oak adds complexity and weight. After three months on lees, the wine was fined and filtered before bottling at 12.5% ABV, with a residual sugar of 2.7g/L, pH of 3.13 and acidity of 6.4g/L.

Vintage Conditions

The 2025 vintage at Te Muna began with a warm, dry spring that encouraged early vine development and higher yields. A cooler, more overcast summer then slowed the ripening process considerably, preserving the delicate aromatics — white flowers, peach, passionfruit and herbal notes — that define this wine’s exceptional character. This long, cool ripening season delivered the intense citrus and tropical fruit complexity, bright acidity and mineral-driven elegance that are the hallmarks of Te Muna’s distinctive river stone terroir. Low yields and the careful selection of over 50 individual parcels ensured that the 2025 vintage is purely reflective of Te Muna’s unique and celebrated Martinborough terroir at its very finest.
