Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is a sublime 19-year-old Islay single malt — a rare small batch release inspired by Traigh Bhan beach, known locally as the Singing Sands, and an enchanting reflection of the wild, elemental place to which it owes its name. Matured in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks and non-chill filtered at 46.2% ABV, Traigh Bhan effortlessly accomplishes the impossible balance — calm meets storm, seductive smoothness gives way to powerful peaty depth, and every sip resonates long beyond the glass. Rich bronze in colour, with smoky pineapple, pine resin, toffee, and dark chilli chocolate on the nose, and a palate of pronounced salinity, smoked chilli chocolate, paprika, toasted oak, and peppermint fondant. The finish is long, resonant, and carried by bold yet comforting aromatic wood smoke.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Rich, deep bronze — the concentrated, aged colour of a 19-year-old Islay single malt matured in American oak and Oloroso sherry casks, with the depth and complexity that nearly two decades of maturation delivers.

Aroma

Layered and captivating — smoky pineapple, tangy cream, and fragrant wood smoke lead, with toffee, soft leather, sweet liquorice, and tar weaving beneath. A splash of water reveals struck flint, herbal pine resin, coal tar, and citrus lime lifting into creamy vanilla cheesecake. Extraordinary complexity from one of Islay’s most celebrated distilleries.

Palate

A pronounced salty sensation opens, transitioning into sweet and tangy smoked chilli chocolate and paprika. Waves of toasted oak and roasted tea leaves rise before giving way to refreshing peppermint fondant and salted white chocolate — peaty power and elegant refinement in perfect, impossible balance.

Pairs With

Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is best savoured neat or with a few drops of water to unlock its extraordinary complexity — a whisky of this rarity and character deserves patience and attention. A natural companion for dark chocolate, smoked meats, and aged hard cheeses.

Production Notes

Matured for 19 years in a combination of American oak and Oloroso sherry casks, Ardbeg Traigh Bhan is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46.2% ABV — preserving the full texture, natural colour, and extraordinary complexity that nearly two decades of Islay maturation delivers. A small batch release from Ardbeg Distillery on the southern shores of Islay, Traigh Bhan is named after the beach known locally as the Singing Sands — a place of wild beauty and elemental power that is perfectly reflected in the whisky itself.

Producer History

Ardbeg Distillery has stood on the southern shores of Islay since 1815, producing some of the most intensely peated and celebrated single malt Scotch whiskies in the world. After periods of closure and uncertainty, the distillery was rescued and revived in 1997 by The Glenmorangie Company, and has since gone on to achieve a global reputation for producing whiskies of extraordinary character, complexity, and cult status. Traigh Bhan — named after Islay’s legendary Singing Sands beach — represents the pinnacle of Ardbeg’s aged expressions, a rare and remarkable whisky that distils the wild, elemental spirit of Islay into every bottle.
