Altozano Tempranillo 2023 is a vibrant and characterful 100% Tempranillo from Finca Constancia, close to Toledo — the Imperial City, the City of Three Cultures, and a World Heritage City since 1986. A blast of red fruit, vanilla, and toffee flavours with a vibrant violet hue, ripe jammy fruits, and chocolate-infused tannins from three months in French and American oak for a delightfully smooth and expressive wine. Night harvested to protect the fruit from September’s high daytime temperatures, and crafted under the guidance of winemaker Beatriz Paniagua from carefully selected plots that reflect the true personality of the Tempranillo grape.

Winemaking Notes

Crafted from carefully selected plots under the guidance of winemaker Beatriz Paniagua, with the selection process beginning in the vineyard — seeking out fruit that reflects the true personality of the Tempranillo grape. Grapes were harvested during the night to protect them from September’s high daytime temperatures, then cold macerated on arrival at the winery for five days in contact with their marc to retain as much fruit aroma as possible and extract maximum colour. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine’s personality was fine-tuned through three months of ageing in French and American oak barrels.

Producer History

Finca Constancia is situated close to Toledo — a city with over 2,000 years of history, known as the Imperial City and the City of Three Cultures, where Christians, Jews, and Muslims lived together in harmony for centuries, and a World Heritage City since 1986. Altozano is a Finca Constancia wine with firm roots in Toledo — its name meaning a natural elevation of the land, a reference to the Roman name for Toledo, Toletum, meaning “lifted up”. The packaging was designed to represent the icons of the medieval city and pay tribute to the literati, horsemen, and goldsmiths who have populated Toledo’s streets through time — and to the Toledan steel tradition that made the city’s swords and daggers famous throughout the era of the Spanish Empire, and which still fills Toledo’s craft shops today.
