Nagambie Lakes Wine Region – Cool Continental Climate

Situated approximately 120 kilometres north of Melbourne in central Victoria, the Nagambie Lakes region benefits from a unique combination of geographical features that create ideal conditions for viticulture. The region enjoys a cool to moderate continental climate with warm days and cool nights during the growing season, allowing grapes to ripen slowly whilst retaining natural acidity and developing complex flavour profiles. The presence of the Goulburn River and surrounding lakes creates a moderating influence, reducing frost risk and providing humidity that benefits vine health. The ancient Cambrian soils—some of the oldest in Australia—combined with gravel and sandy loam, offer excellent drainage and contribute distinctive mineral complexity to the wines.

Marsanne, Cabernet Sauvignon & Chardonnay – Nagambie's Signature Varieties

Marsanne is a rare specialty of the Nagambie Lakes region, particularly at Tahbilk, which boasts some of the world's oldest Marsanne plantings. This Rhône variety produces distinctive white wines with flavours of honeysuckle, citrus, and stone fruit, developing rich honeyed complexity with age whilst maintaining refreshing acidity.

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in Nagambie's climate, producing elegant, medium-bodied reds with classic blackcurrant and cedar flavours, fine-grained tannins, and the structure to age gracefully. The cool nights preserve aromatics and natural acidity, creating wines of balance and refinement.

Chardonnay from Nagambie expresses citrus and stone fruit characters with subtle oak influence, bright acidity, and the mineral edge that comes from the region's ancient soils, offering a refined cool-climate expression of this noble variety.

Nagambie Lakes wines represent great value for enthusiasts seeking premium Victorian wines with genuine historical provenance and the distinctive regional character that comes from one of Australia's most unique and time-honoured wine districts.
