Collection: Kay Brothers | McLaren Vale

Kay Brothers have been farming the Amery vineyard in McLaren Vale since 1891 — one of the oldest continuously operating family wineries in Australia. Bert and Fred Kay planted 103 acres of vines within seven years of arriving at Amery, with their first vintage in 1895. Five generations later, the family is still making wine from the same land, still keeping the daily diary that Bert and Fred started on their very first day.

The winemaking is deliberately old-fashioned: open fermenters, hand plunging, and the 1928 Celestin Coq & Compagnie basket press that has been in continuous use for nearly a century. Small batches, large oak formats, stone-walled cellars. The Block 6 Shiraz — from vines planted in 1892 — is one of McLaren Vale’s most celebrated wines. All buildings at Amery are listed on the South Australian Heritage Register.
