The 2019 Undercover Shiraz from McLaren Vale's Pertaringa nose offers complex aromas of plums, dark fruits, dried herbs and hints of mint. The palate is bright and textural with dark berries, plums and subtle spices, complemented by an elegant and lengthy finish.

Try with venison loin dry rubbed with juniper berry and lavender served on braised cabbage with a blueberry and red wine glaze.

Winery & Vintage Info

Shortly after leaving the family company in 1980, Geoff Hardy established Pertaringa, which has since continued to produce some of McLaren Vale's finest wines. The name Pertaringa means 'belonging to the hills' and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language.

The Undercover Shiraz is named in recognition of McLaren Vale’s history of supplying other regions with our finest red grapes. Known as the mid palate of Australia, McLaren Vale fruit is well regarded for its ability to improve the quality and richness of wines from other regions.

The 2019 growing season started with mild weather and below average rainfall. Some late spring rain provided a bit of relief from the dry conditions. A heatwave in January was luckily too early in the ripening cycle to cause any damage to the fruit. This was followed by a very mild and dry finish to the vintage, allowing good hang time and flavour development to the smaller than average crop. Winery Notes
