Zema Estate Shiraz 2019 is a lively, medium-bodied Coonawarra Shiraz crafted from perfectly ripe grapes, aged 15 months in French and American oak. This wine is smooth and accessible now, with the ability to age gracefully for over a decade.

Appearance

Deep ruby red with excellent clarity, reflecting the wine's medium-bodied character and careful winemaking.

Aroma

Aromas of raspberry and ripe plum dominate the bouquet, complemented by subtle oak notes from the 15-month maturation in French and American oak. The nose is inviting and expressive, showcasing the purity of Coonawarra fruit.

Palate

A balanced palate featuring red fruit flavours of raspberry and plum, beautifully integrated with soft tannins and subtle oak notes. The wine underwent a 10-day skin fermentation to extract optimal flavour and structure whilst maintaining elegance. The medium body provides excellent drinkability, whilst the soft tannins ensure immediate approachability. After two years of bottle ageing, the wine displays beautiful integration and smoothness, with the oak providing gentle support rather than dominating the fruit.

Zema Estate's commitment to quality Coonawarra winemaking shines through in this elegant Shiraz. The wine is ready to enjoy now but possesses the structure and balance to age gracefully for over a decade, developing further complexity with time.

Pairs With

Grilled lamb, beef dishes, barbecued meats, mushroom risotto, aged cheddar, venison, duck, mature hard cheeses

Serve at 16-18°C. Enjoy now or cellar for 10+ years. Decant for 30 minutes if drinking young.

Winery & Vintage Info

Coonawarra is renowned for its remarkable ‘terra rossa’ soil, a thin one-metre band of soil overlaying a deep formation of limestone. The Zema family is proudly traditional in its approach to vineyard practices, favouring hand pruning and limited irrigation to maximise fruit quality. These practices are enhanced by the family’s three strategically selected prime vineyard locations, capitalising on the region’s subtle climatic variations.

This wine was made from fruit that was harvested at its optimum maturity, and then fermented on skins for 10 days under controlled temperatures using a combination of static, pulse air and rotary fermenters. Maturation for 15 months in French and American oak Hogshead barrels has assisted in the development of a wine that shows vibrancy and richness.
