Tasting Notes

Appearance

This distinguished South Australian Shiraz presents a deep, rich ruby-purple colour with exceptional density and brilliance, displaying the outstanding quality characteristic of Temple Bruer’s 2024 vintage — a certified organic and vegan Shiraz crafted without preservatives from vineyards across the Riverland, Currency Creek and Langhorne Creek, three of South Australia’s most celebrated and diverse wine-growing regions.

Aroma

The bouquet is immediately captivating, with aromas of blueberry, blackberry and plum creating a richly layered and beautifully expressive dark fruit profile of genuine depth and distinction. Clove, black pepper and liquorice add a layer of spice and complexity that reflects the exceptional character of organic Shiraz fruit harvested across three complementary South Australian terroirs — a nose of outstanding intensity and authentic regional character.

Palate

Robust and full-bodied on the palate, with deep black fruit flavours of exceptional richness and concentration complemented by smoky bacon and leather notes of genuine complexity and sophistication. Subtle clove and fennel accents add a beautifully savoury dimension that elevates this organic Shiraz beyond the expected — a wine of outstanding depth, structure and enduring character. The finish is long, warm and deeply satisfying.

Winemaking Notes

Temple Bruer 2024 Shiraz was crafted without the use of SO₂ at any stage of production — a testament to the winery’s uncompromising commitment to certified organic and preservative-free winemaking. The grapes were harvested and cooled on arrival at the winery before fermentation commenced. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was matured in a blend of 90% French oak and 10% American oak — a combination that imparts the smoky, spicy and leather complexity that define this full-bodied Shiraz. The wine was then blended and bottled twelve months later, with no SO₂ used at any stage of production. The result is a robust, deeply flavoured and genuinely expressive organic Shiraz of outstanding quality and authentic South Australian character.

Vintage Conditions

The fruit for Temple Bruer’s 2024 Shiraz was sourced from vineyards across three complementary South Australian regions — the Riverland, Currency Creek and Langhorne Creek. The Riverland vineyards are predominantly grown in red sandy loam soils, whilst Langhorne Creek Shiraz vines grow in light sandy loam with some granite over clay. The elevated Currency Creek vineyard sits above the Finniss River, facing north towards Mount Observation. Harvesting began at the warmer Riverland sites in mid-February and concluded at the cooler Currency Creek and Langhorne Creek sites in March and April, achieving an average of 13.5 Baumé with some lively acidity due to the cooler season — a vintage that delivered exceptional depth of flavour, natural freshness and the robust, full-bodied character that define this outstanding 2024 Shiraz.
