Campbells Shiraz Durif Cabernet 2023 is a blend of the three grape varieties most synonymous with Rutherglen — Shiraz (86%) providing full plummy flavours, Durif (9%) the ironstone backbone, and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) adding blackcurrant fruit and a lengthy, satisfying finish. Deep mid red with an attractive, bright, and lifted nose of summer berries and red plum with warm toasted French oak; light-bodied and easy drinking on the palate, with plush berry fruit, a fresh plummy mouthfeel, grippy tannin, dark cherry, and earthy ironstone from the Durif, and the length and smoothness that Cabernet delivers. Ready to enjoy now, with the structure to develop over the next 2–5 years.

Winemaking Notes

Shiraz (86%), Durif (9%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) from Campbells’ Rutherglen vineyards. Separate batches harvested throughout March and fermented on skins for 7–10 days. After pressing, matured in a variety of stainless and French oak vessels for 21 months before selection for blending and bottling. 14.0% ABV. Drink now or cellar for 2–5 years.

Producer History

The Campbell story at Rutherglen began in 1870 — one of evolution, tenacity, and determination, building on the experience of generations past with a dedication to innovation. Founder John Campbell left the goldfields heeding the wise words of Rutherglen’s first winegrower: “Dig gentlemen, dig, but not deeper than the first 6 inches — because there is more gold in the first six inches than there is lower down.” Son David extended the cellars. Allen and Isabel diversified through the Depression years, introducing sheep that proved invaluable during the wool boom. Colin and Malcolm added new technology and extended the family vineyards. Today, the fifth generation brings their own skills, expertise, and dreams — ensuring that Campbells of Bobbie Burns continues to be stamped with the personal ideals of every Campbell who came before.
