About 1800 Tequila

1800® Tequila holds the distinction of introducing the world to premium tequila in the year 1800, establishing a legacy that has endured for over 220 years. Named after the year Mexico declared independence and the first tequila was aged in oak barrels, 1800® represents a pivotal moment in tequila history. The distillery has remained steadfastly true to its founding values, crafting exceptional tequila from the original recipe that has been passed down through generations, honouring both tradition and the art of premium tequila production.

Weber Blue Agave & Traditional Harvesting

Every bottle of 1800® Tequila begins with 100% Weber blue agave, hand-harvested from many of the original agave fields that have supplied the distillery since its founding. The dedicated jimadores—skilled agave farmers whose expertise has been honed over generations—carefully select only the finest mature agave plants, typically aged 7-10 years, when the piñas (hearts) have reached optimal sugar content and flavour development. These expert harvesters use traditional coas (sharp, flat-bladed tools) to remove the spiky leaves and extract the piñas, which can weigh 40-90 kilograms each. This time-honoured hand-harvesting process ensures that only premium agave enters production, maintaining the exceptional quality that defines 1800® Tequila.

1800 Tequila Range & Expressions

The 1800® portfolio showcases the full spectrum of premium tequila craftsmanship. 1800® Silver (Blanco) captures the pure, vibrant essence of Weber blue agave with crisp, clean flavours and subtle citrus notes, perfect for premium cocktails or sipping. 1800® Reposado rests in oak barrels for a minimum of six months, developing smooth vanilla and caramel notes whilst retaining the agave's natural character. 1800® Añejo matures for at least 14 months in French and American oak, creating a sophisticated expression with rich butterscotch, toasted oak, and warm spice complexity. The premium 1800® Cristalino—a filtered añejo—offers the smoothness and complexity of aged tequila with crystal-clear presentation. Limited releases and special editions further demonstrate the distillery's commitment to innovation whilst honouring their 220-year heritage.

Jalisco: The Heart of Tequila Country

1800® Tequila is crafted in Jalisco, Mexico's premier tequila-producing region and the only area where authentic tequila can legally be produced. Located in western Mexico, Jalisco's unique terroir—particularly in the highlands (Los Altos) and lowlands (El Valle) regions—provides ideal conditions for cultivating Weber blue agave. The volcanic soil, rich in minerals and nutrients, imparts distinctive character to the agave plants, whilst the region's elevation (ranging from 1,500 to 2,100 metres in the highlands) influences flavour development. The Los Altos region, where many premium agaves are grown, produces plants with sweeter, more floral characteristics due to the iron-rich red soil and higher altitude, whilst the lowland agaves develop earthier, more herbaceous notes.

Climate & Growing Conditions

Jalisco's semi-arid climate creates the perfect environment for Weber blue agave cultivation. The region experiences warm days and cool nights, with average temperatures ranging from 20-30°C, allowing the agave plants to develop slowly and concentrate their natural sugars. The rainy season from June to October provides essential moisture, whilst the dry season encourages the plants to store energy in their piñas. This climatic balance, combined with Jalisco's volcanic soil and elevation variations, produces agave of exceptional quality with complex flavour profiles. The 7-10 year maturation period required for agave to reach harvest readiness reflects the patient, traditional approach that defines premium tequila production.

Heritage & Craftsmanship

1800® Tequila's commitment to the original recipe and traditional production methods ensures that every bottle honours the distillery's 220-year legacy. From the jimadores who harvest the agave to the master distillers who oversee fermentation and distillation in copper pot stills, each step reflects generations of expertise. The careful selection of oak barrels for ageing, the precise timing of each expression's maturation, and the meticulous blending process all contribute to the consistent quality and character that have made 1800® a benchmark for premium tequila worldwide.
