Louis Roederer recently released the 2008 Cristal, it comes to us with a patient heart, full of promise. It is still brimming with youth, even after many long years spent resting in the cellars. The chalk has concentrated its texture and given it its unique energy and surprising depth. Its pure tension, opulence and remarkable persistence take it above and beyond any limits. It asserts its presence, flowing as sweetly as a mountain stream, yet structured by the strength and concentration of the vintage.

Cristal is a remarkably balanced and refined champagne whose length is inimitable. It has a silky texture and fruity aromas, complemented by a powerful mineral quality with white fruit and citrus notes. Cristal is a wine that keeps well: it can be conserved for over twenty years without losing its freshness and character.

From the chalky depths, Cristal has forged its identity in these limestone soils which reflect the rays of the summer sun and capture the soft light of winter. Cristal has a restrained strength and a pervasive purity, like a lithe ballerina’s impossibly graceful leap through the air. A reverberation of bright fruit, an initial pulse which penetrates to the core and beckons contemplation. The limestone gives the wine its beautifully firm body, chalky concentration, as well as an ethereal lightness and delicate tension.

The 2008 Cristal has an amber hue with green and orange tints. On the palate it has a fine, even and lively sparkle. Complex and intense bouquet disclosing candied citrus, yellow fruit, Williams pear, pollen and toasted almond. The delicately seductive bouquet shows intensity and well-honed precision.
