Winemaking Notes
Kaesler The Bogan Shiraz 2022 is crafted from an assemblage of estate vines planted in 1899 and the 1960s, representing some of the finest old vine Shiraz in the Barossa Valley. The fruit was carefully selected and vinified to showcase the intensity and character of these heritage plantings. Fermentation was managed to extract optimal colour, flavour, and tannin structure, whilst the wine was matured in oak to integrate subtle hints of char and complexity without overwhelming the pure fruit expression. The winemaking approach remains true to the Bogan philosophy—bold, unapologetic, and focused on expressing the essence of old vine Barossa Shiraz. The result is a full-bodied wine with dense, rich flavours and pure, fine tannins that provide both immediate appeal and exceptional cellaring potential of 15 to 20 years.

Vintage Conditions
The 2021 vintage (which influenced the 2022 release) experienced winter rainfall 48% above average, a welcome change after three dry years. Maximum temperatures were below average at the beginning of the growing season; however, the latter half was warmer, providing excellent ripening conditions for the Shiraz grapes. A hailstorm on 28th October severely damaged some vines, though fortunately most recovered through secondary shoot growth. Whilst these secondary shoots were typically less fruitful than primary shoots, resulting in lower yields in some varieties, the reduced crop load contributed to increased concentration and intensity in the remaining fruit. These ideal growing conditions allowed the 2022 vintage to capture the very best of the old vine plantings, producing one of the finest Bogan releases in its 20-year legacy with rich, vibrant purity and exceptional depth of fruit.
