Scarborough Wine Co. has been making Chardonnay in the Hunter Valley since 1987. Founded by Ian Scarborough in Pokolbin, the winery built its reputation on a single conviction: that Hunter Valley Chardonnay — with its natural acidity, textural richness and capacity to age — is one of Australia’s most distinctive and underappreciated wine styles.

Nearly four decades on, that conviction has been proven right. Jerome Scarborough now leads winemaking, continuing the family’s focus on Chardonnay across three tiers: the Yellow Label, approachable and fruit-forward; the White Label, textural and mid-weight; and the Blue Label, the flagship expression built for the cellar. Each tier is a different lens on the same variety and the same place.

The Hunter Valley’s clay soils, warm growing season and maritime influence create Chardonnay with a character that is entirely its own — richer and more textural than cool-climate styles, with the natural acidity to develop and evolve in bottle over the medium to long term. Scarborough has spent nearly four decades learning exactly what that means.
