Winemaking Notes

Founded in 1772, the House of Veuve Clicquot quickly established its reputation on the outstanding quality of its Champagne. Under the dynamic leadership of Madame Clicquot, an outstanding international Champagne flourished, along the way re-inventing the manner in which Champagne was produced. The Veuve Clicquot vineyards are one of the foremost in the region, in terms of both size and quality, and are spread over several districts and are almost all Grand Cru and Premier Cru classified. Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus are used for the blending of Yellow Label. The predominance of Pinot Noir provides the core structure of Clicquot, whilst a touch of Meunier rounds out the blend. Chardonnay adds the elegance and finesse essential to a perfectly balanced wine. Traditionally, the proportion of each grape variety used is 50 to 55% Pinot Noir, 15 to 20% Meunier and 28 to 33% Chardonnay. These figures vary slightly from year to year depending on conditions. The Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Champagne blend relies on a significant amount of reserve wines, typically 25-35%, and occasionally up to 40%, to maintain the consistency of the House's style. These reserve wines, aged approximately 9 years, are kept separately to preserve the distinct characteristics of the vineyard and vintage. The Chef de Caves has to achieve the total consistency of taste, which makes Yellow Label immediately recognizable, utterly reliable both in terms of quality, colour and aroma.

Vintage Conditions

As a non-vintage Champagne, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut represents a carefully crafted blend of multiple vintages from the House's superb Grand Cru and Premier Cru classified vineyards spread over several districts in Champagne. The non-vintage format allows the Chef de Caves to achieve the total consistency of taste which makes Yellow Label immediately recognizable, utterly reliable both in terms of quality, colour and aroma. Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus are blended, with the proportion of each grape variety varying slightly from year to year depending on conditions. The blend relies on a significant amount of reserve wines, typically 25-35%, and occasionally up to 40%, to maintain the consistency of the House's style. These reserve wines, aged approximately 9 years, are kept separately to preserve the distinct characteristics of the vineyard and vintage, adding complexity and depth to the final blend. The meticulous blending process ensures a perfect balance between power and finesse, with complexity coming from the predominant presence of Pinot Noir and reserve wines. The Champagne, with its golden yellow hue and delicate bubbles, provides an exquisite mouthfeel and boasts fragrances of white and yellow fruits, vanilla and toasty brioche. The consistent style showcases the superb vineyards and the House's commitment to quality that has been maintained since 1772 under the dynamic leadership of Madame Clicquot. The Magnum 1.5L format is particularly prized for its ability to age gracefully, with the larger bottle size allowing for slower, more elegant development of the Champagne's complex flavours.
