Tyrrell's Special Release Shiraz Pinot Noir 2023 (Hunter Valley)

Tyrrell’s is as much a part of the fabric of the Hunter Valley as the Semillon and Shiraz vines we’ve been nurturing since our founder, English-immigrant Edward Tyrrell, first planted them during the mid-19th century.

Having lived and breathed wine growing and winemaking in the Hunter Valley for more than 160 years, Tyrrell's has amassed an unrivalled knowledge of what makes the Hunter one of Australia’s, and indeed the world’s, greatest wine growing regions.

The Shiraz components were selected from specific blocks that showed the characters we desired for this wine. Blocks within Old Hillside, NVC and the Short Flat. The Pinot Noir was sourced from our HVD Vineyard.

In the lead up to the 2023 vintage, there was an abundance of rain in spring which gave great soil moisture heading into the dry months of December and January. The harvest period was relatively stress-free without any adverse conditions such as rain or heat. This vintage has produced well-balanced, complex wines with fruit purity and is considered to be an exceptional Hunter Valley vintage.

This blend of Shiraz (90%) and Pinot Noir (10%) is a modern interpretation of the great ‘Hunter River Burgundy’ styles made famous in the mid-1900s. Both varietals were vinified and matured separately before being blended in July and then bottled in August 2023.
