This 2021 Turkey Flat Shiraz boasts a delightful fragrance of violets, ripe black fruits, and a touch of cedar on the nose. Subtle notes of earth and olive lend depth and opulence. The palate is lively with a mineral-like ferrous quality, fine powdery tannins, and a savoury finish. Flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate, and plum provide a luxurious mouthfeel, all within a tightly woven structure.

Winery & Vintage Info

Shiraz is a variety that carries great significance in the Barossa Valley and as caretakers for some of the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world (dating back to 1847), we take immense pride in crafting this wine. Our highly acclaimed Shiraz has received numerous awards since its first vintage in 1990. However it's the versatility of this wine, in the way it embraces both power and elegance that we are most proud of. Approachable in its youth or cellar for many years.

Vintage 2021 will be remembered as one of excellent quality and yield. The first dominant La Nina event since the Summer of 2010/11 led to a wet Spring, setting up the best fruit-set seen since the vintage of 2017. While the Eastern and Western seaboards yielded to La Nina with heavy rain over the growing season. South Australia and the Barossa Valley proved to be an anomaly with long, cool and dry conditions that proved ideal for ripening grapes. The resultant wines are intense with fruit and colour.

This Shiraz is a result of blending individual parcels across our Bethany and Stonewell vineyards, which show the greatest potential for cellaring. Each parcel is individually vinified in open top fermenters and aged in French oak for up to 18 months, to create a wine which is perfect in its youth but will also reward patience for many years to come.
