Collection: Tar & Roses | Heathcote

Tar & Roses was born in 2006 from a shared vision between Don Lewis and Narelle King — two winemakers who found their direction in Priorat, Spain, and brought it home to Central Victoria. The name comes from the signature characteristics of Nebbiolo, and the wines have always reflected that spirit: Australian expressions of varieties that most producers wouldn’t touch, made with care and without compromise.

About Tar & Roses

Narelle King makes wines that are different from the mainstream — deliberately so. Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Pinot Grigio sit alongside Shiraz and Riesling from Heathcote, with more recent additions of cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Mornington Peninsula. The varieties are not always easy sells, but they are beautiful wines made by someone who has always been drawn to things that are out of the norm.

Don Lewis passed away in 2017. Narelle continues their tradition and legacy, maintaining the collaborative spirit — including ongoing partnerships with Anthony Fikkers and Giovanni Rosso — that has defined Tar & Roses from the beginning.

Heathcote

Heathcote’s ancient Cambrian soils — among the oldest geological formations on Earth — give the region’s wines a distinctive mineral depth and structure that suits the Mediterranean varieties Tar & Roses has championed since 2006. Warm days, cool nights and well-drained red soils produce fruit with concentration, natural acidity and the capacity to age.
