Heathcote Wine Region – Ancient Soils, Modern Excellence

Located in central Victoria, approximately 100 kilometres north of Melbourne, Heathcote is renowned for producing some of Australia's finest red wines. The region's defining feature is its ancient Cambrian soils, formed over 500 million years ago and amongst the oldest geological formations on Earth. These deep, red volcanic soils are exceptionally rich in iron oxide, imparting distinctive mineral complexity and earthy character to the wines.

Heathcote's continental climate features warm to hot days during the growing season, tempered by significant diurnal temperature variation with cool nights. This temperature shift preserves natural acidity and allows grapes to develop full phenolic ripeness whilst maintaining freshness and aromatic intensity. The region receives moderate rainfall, with well-drained ancient soils encouraging deep root penetration and concentrated fruit character.
