First planted on the Tahbilk Estate in their founding year and with surviving vines dating back to 1927 that are amongst the oldest in the world, Marsanne is the white varietal on the winemaker’s tasting bench that sees the excitement levels rise each vintage.

Fruit intensity is the hallmark of Estate releases from the 2020 vintage and the Marsanne from this year delivers to that end in spades. With lifted floral, citrus and tropical fruit aromas are further enlivened by a bright mineral acidity that refreshes now and will support the development of classic honeysuckle and toasty, marmalade characters with further bottle ageing. One for the ages that will delight right now with your favourite Asian stir-fry or preferred grilled fish.

Winery & Vintage Info

Established in 1860 Tahbilk is one of Australia's most beautiful and historic family owned wineries. Located in the Nagambie Lakes region of central Victoria (120kms north of Melbourne), one of the nation's premium viticultural areas. The property comprises some 1,214 hectares of rich river flats with a frontage of 11 kms to the Goulburn River and 8 kms of permanent backwaters and creeks. Purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, Tahbilk is home to 5 generations.

The name Tahbilk originates from our location, which the local aboriginal people first referred to as "tabilk-tabilk", meaning "place of many waterholes". Originally spelled Tabilk, the 'h' was added later.

Tahbilk is home to some 200 hectares of vineyards specialising in grape varietals from the Rhone including whites varietals: Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne and red varietals Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Also growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho grapes.

Tahbilk first planted Marsanne on the Estate in the 1860’s, we have largest single holding of this unique varietal worldwide including surviving vines dating back to 1927, amongst the oldest in the world. Winery Notes

'Tahbilk has made Marsanne its own, the quality and style seemingly set in stone, or should I say steel.
Citrus, apple and pear now, honeysuckle biding its time becuase it is certain to arrive in a year or two, when the texture of the wine will be transformed.'
