Ocean Eight Pinot Noir 2024 is a single vineyard Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir of genuine elegance and intoxicating perfume — sourced entirely from 17 acres of Pinot Noir at Tuerong, handpicked in a low-cropping year of excellent quality, and crafted to showcase the finest characters that the Mornington Peninsula can exhibit. Delicate and subtle, with spicy forest floor, lovely cherries, and raspberries, and a perfume that is by far the best feature of this wine — pour it into a glass with a big balloon to experience it in full. Small volume. Cellar for up to eight years.

Appearance

Bright, clear ruby — the vibrant, luminous colour of a single vineyard Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir of genuine purity and elegant fruit character from the Tuerong vineyard.

Aroma

Intoxicating — the perfume is by far the best feature of this wine, and it demands a glass with a big balloon to experience it in full. Spicy forest floor characters with lovely cherries and raspberries, delicate and expressive, and unmistakably from the cool climate blocks of Tuerong on the Mornington Peninsula.

Palate

Subtle and elegant — a fruit-driven Pinot Noir of genuine delicacy and refinement, with cherries, raspberries, and spicy forest floor characters carried on a palate of beautiful balance and cool climate precision. One of the finest Pinots from Ocean Eight to date.

Pairs With

Roasted duck, salmon, wild mushroom dishes, soft-rind cheeses, and charcuterie. A Pinot Noir of this elegance and perfume belongs at a table that appreciates wines of genuine delicacy and regional character — and has been a favourite of the Friday lunch regulars at Bistro Gitan for close to 12 years.

Reviews

“Wonderful complex Pinot with earthy characters yet it retains the great bright fruit from the Peninsula. A great value wine that’s especially loved by the Friday lunch regulars.”

— Edouard Reymond, Bistro Gitan

Winemaking Notes

Fruit is meticulously grown and managed throughout the year at the Tuerong vineyard and handpicked to ensure careful selection and quality. The grapes are 100% de-stemmed and placed into fermentation vats at low temperature to ensure a slow fermentation that maximises perfume and spice. After two weeks of fermentation the skins are pressed off and the wine is gravity fed into large puncheon barrels, where it is stored for 11 months at 18 degrees. A low-cropping year of excellent quality — small volume, and one that will age beautifully for the next eight years.
