Leo Buring Dry Riesling 2025 is a wine of pure Clare Valley character — lively, precise, and unmistakably from Australia’s foremost maker of Riesling. Since 1945, Leo Buring has made only one grape variety, and this is why: Riesling encapsulates everything they strive for — purity, elegance, time and place, and the structure to age gracefully. The 2025 vintage from Clare Valley is lively lemon and lime with citrus blossom and mineral flecks on the nose; pure, fresh citrus zest and lemon sherbet on the palate, supported by mouth-watering mineral slate and a vibrant, salivating acid line that drives to a crisp finish. Classic Clare Riesling. Gold — 95 points, Melbourne Royal Wine Show.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale straw with bright green hints — the fresh, luminous colour of a pure, dry Clare Valley Riesling from Australia’s most dedicated Riesling producer, with the clarity and precision that 10.5% ABV and an early 2025 harvest deliver.

Aroma

Lively lemon and lime fruits heightened with notes of citrus blossom and mineral flecks — great purity and aromatics that speak directly to the Clare Valley terroir and the Leo Buring philosophy of elegance, time, and place.

Palate

Pure and fresh — clean citrus zest and lemon sherbet, supported by mouth-watering mineral slate. Delicate yet powerful, with a core of juicy citrus flavours running the length of the palate. A vibrant, salivating acid line drives to a crisp, classic Clare Riesling finish.

Pairs With

A natural companion for freshly shucked oysters, grilled barramundi, Thai seafood dishes, Vietnamese cuisine, and soft fresh cheeses — equally rewarding now and will develop beautifully through to 2031.

Finish

Crisp, vibrant, and lingering — lemon, lime, and mineral slate fading cleanly and invitingly, leaving a pure, precise close that is the hallmark of great Clare Valley Riesling and the Leo Buring commitment to purity and elegance.

Winemaking Notes

Made by Winemaker Marie Clay from Clare Valley fruit harvested in the earliest vintage on record — warm temperatures drove rapid sugar and flavour development, with acids remaining soft and approachable even at relatively low sugar levels. Harvesting decisions were made early to capture flavour and freshness and maintain natural acidity. 10.5% ABV. Dry. Peak drinking now–2031.

Vintage Conditions

The 2025 vintage in Clare Valley was marked by challenging yet distinctive conditions — well below average winter and spring rainfall led to early budburst and an accelerated growing season. Continued dry conditions through summer and autumn produced the earliest harvest on record. Warm temperatures drove rapid sugar and flavour development, with acids remaining soft and approachable. The resulting wines show good regional expression, aromatic depth, and flavour intensity with relatively low alcohol levels and an approachable acid structure — a vintage of genuine character and Clare Valley distinction.
