Winery & Vintage Info

The idea of the De Bortoli 'Villages' blend is to create charming and inspiring wine from different villages within a region. Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot Noir chosen from the Yarra Valley. Shiraz and Grenache chosen from Heathcote. Variety and regional typicity in spades.

The fruit for the 2019 vintage release of De Bortoli's Villages Heathcote Tempranillo Touriga was sourced from Heathcote Ridge and Willoughby Bridge Vineyards, located in Corop in the North of Heathcote's wine region. 2019 was a nice growing season with even ripening temperatures and timely rainfall. Both Tempranillo and Touriga required crop thinning to ensure fruit concentration and balance. Each variety is hand-harvested and vinified in 6 tonne open fermenters. 15% whole bunch inclusion in the Tempranillo and Touriga. 6 months fermentation in 500 litre French oak puncheons (5% new). Regular maturation for aeration. Final blend 53% Tempranillo, 42% Touriga and a small amount of shiraz (5%). Winery Notes

Reviews
"The 2017 release was one of the best value wines of the year.
This 2018 is on song too. This is fabulous buying and drinking. The fruit is ripe and sweet but there’s an inlay of earth and besides, dry/sweet spice notes sweep convincingly throughout. It feels svelte in the mouth and it tastes just as good. It’s soft but shaped. Every bistro in the country should stock this."
