Tasting Notes

Appearance

Pale straw with bright silver highlights — the fresh, luminous colour of a King Valley Pinot Grigio harvested at peak ripeness during a warm and mild growing season, with the clarity and vibrancy that stainless steel fermentation and careful lees ageing deliver.

Aroma

Ripe pear, orange blossom, and white pepper — an aromatic profile of genuine Italian character and immediate appeal, with the mineral and saline notes that define the Bella Riva style and the King Valley’s distinctive cool-climate terroir.

Palate

Mineral and saline, with a distinctive core of fruit and soft acidity — texture in abundance, with the complexity and depth that partial fermentation in older French oak casks and extended lees contact deliver. Fresh, lively, and utterly smashable, with a clean, refreshing finish.

Pairs With

Winemaking Notes

Grapes are destemmed and pressed with an emphasis on maximising flavour from the skins. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks with a small portion in older French oak casks. Post-fermentation, the wines are left on yeast lees for additional texture and complexity. Harvested in mid-February from low-cropping vines during a warm and mild King Valley growing season. Alcohol 12.5%, pH 3.26, TA 6.0 g/L. Made for early consumption — drink within 1–3 years.

Producer History

De Bortoli’s Bella Riva range celebrates classic Italian grape varieties grown in stunning Victorian wine regions — Pinot Grigio and Fiano from the King Valley, Sangiovese from Heathcote and the Yarra Valley. The range reflects De Bortoli’s deep Italian heritage and their commitment to expressing the character of each variety and region with authenticity, approachability, and genuine Italian soul. Bella Riva — beautiful riverbank — is a name that speaks to the family’s roots and their enduring passion for the varieties and traditions of Italy, reimagined in the vineyards of Victoria.
