Discover the perfect balance of rich primary fruits and complex spices with Best's Great Western Bin No. 0 Shiraz 2021. Savour the delicious notes of red cherry, cranberry, and blackberry, accompanied by a creamy mid-palate of clove, cinnamon, and dried herb. Chocolate tannins and medium acidity create a well-rounded and satisfying experience.

"This is understated and slightly surly, but its future is as bright as ever. It will need time. It tastes of black cherries, saltbush, dark earth and herbs, with a thin layer of cedarwood oak helping to tie it all together. Tannin is fine and filigreed; length is pulsing and assured. It's medium in weight, and it will become more expressive as it matures."

Winery & Vintage Info

Best's Great Western Bin No. 0 Shiraz 2021 is an incredible vintage. Bin 0 is made to be an age worthy style and has been the undisputed icon of Great Western Shiraz for many decades. Made from the three-shiraz blocks surrounding our Concongella winery; Bart’s Block from 1966, Sparky’s Block from 1970 and a selection from Best's White Gravels Hill block planted in the early 1990’s. It is internationally acclaimed as one of Australia’s great Shiraz wines, noted as Classified by Langton’s in their latest Classification.

The evolution of Bin No. 0 begins many years ago – there are old bottles in Best's cellar door with Hock 0 labels made by Joseph Best from the late 1800s. When we were forced to remove all references to French terms on the labels in the 1980s, Bin No. 0 began its life as Claret No. 0. And now, the Bin No. 0 Shiraz has lived with this new moniker for years – it’s one of the longest consecutively labelled varietals in this country.

An excellent season with near perfect growing conditions right through to harvest. Adequate winter and spring rainfalls set the wines up to burst into life and sustain beautifully balanced growth throughout the summer. Autumn was ideal with little rainfall and warm conditions to ensure the grapes matured gracefully.

Best’s Bin No. 0 has always been produced from Best's oldest vines, with fruit selected from the lower-yielding blocks of the historic Concongella Vineyard at Great Western. This vineyard is home to 19th- and 20th-century Shiraz plantings, which result in intensely flavoured fruit. Hand selected, sorted and ferment the fruit in small batches followed by intense barrel selection, and stored underground for 18 months. Winery Notes
