Amaro Montenegro is one of Italy’s most iconic liqueurs — born in 1885 as Elisir Lungavita, and renamed in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro upon her marriage to Prince Vittorio Emanuele III in 1896. A masterful blend of 40 botanicals sourced globally: nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, sweet and bitter oranges, dried oranges, Artemisia, coriander, marjoram, and oregano. Housed in the distinctive vial-shaped bottle conceived by founder Stanislao Cobianchi — as unique as the elixir within.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep amber with warm mahogany highlights and a luminous clarity — the colour of over 130 years of Italian craftsmanship.

Sweet and bitter orange lead with citrus brightness, layered with nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon. Artemisia, coriander, marjoram, and oregano add herbal depth — complex, aromatic, and immediately inviting.
Palate
Beautifully poised between bitter and sweet — citrus and warm spice carry through a layered, sophisticated palate, with the 40-botanical blend delivering genuine depth and a long, refined finish.
Pairs With
Excellent neat or over ice as a digestivo, with dark chocolate, espresso, aged cheeses, or charcuterie. A natural in a Montenegro Negroni or Spritz.

Production Notes
Crafted from 40 botanicals sourced across five continents — nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, sweet and bitter oranges, dried oranges, Artemisia, coriander, marjoram, and oregano among them. The iconic vial-shaped bottle, conceived by Stanislao Cobianchi, has retained its distinctive character through every iteration — reminiscent of a potion conjured through alchemy. 700ml.
Producer History
Founded in Bologna in 1885 by Stanislao Cobianchi under the name Elisir Lungavita, the liqueur was renamed Amaro Montenegro eleven years later in honour of Princess Elena of Montenegro on her marriage to Prince Vittorio Emanuele III. Cobianchi’s vision — a blend as complex and distinctive as the royal dedication it bears — has endured for over 130 years, making Montenegro one of Italy’s most celebrated amari.
