Tasting Notes

Yangarra GSM 2024 McLaren Vale showcases the artistry of Blewitt Springs terroir in this exceptional Grenache-Shiraz-Mourvèdre blend, delivering perfumed elegance with structured tannins and remarkable depth.

Appearance

Brilliant ruby-garnet hue with a vibrant crimson rim, displaying excellent clarity and medium-plus viscosity that hints at the wine's concentration and careful winemaking.

Aroma

The nose opens with lifted red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry compote, complemented by dried herbs, white pepper and subtle garrigue notes. Underlying nuances of violet, rose petal and earthy minerality add complexity, whilst gentle oak integration contributes hints of cedar and sweet spice.

Palate

Medium to full-bodied with silky yet firm tannins providing excellent structure. Bright red fruit flavours of cherry and cranberry meld seamlessly with darker notes of plum and blackberry. The palate reveals layers of Mediterranean herbs, liquorice and subtle savoury characters, balanced by refreshing acidity that carries the wine to a long, elegant finish with lingering spice and mineral notes.

Pairs With

This versatile GSM pairs beautifully with herb-crusted lamb rack, duck confit, mushroom risotto, charcuterie boards featuring aged salami and prosciutto, or Moroccan-spiced tagines.

Winery & Vintage Info

Winemaking Notes

67% Grenache, 17% Shiraz, 16% Mourvèdre. Each variety handled separately. Destemmed and selectively sorted in the winery. 50% whole berries retained. Wild yeast ferment. Each variety has a unique maceration. However, the unifying principle is using a very gentle pump over regime, often just wetting the cap, for a minimum of 14 days. Extended maceration for some portions of Grenache. The wine was matured in a mixture of old French oak puncheons and foudre, ceramic eggs and amphora for 8 months. Bottled February 2025.

Vintage Conditions

A normal wet winter was followed by a picturesque dry spring. The long range weather patterns indicated a shift from La Niña towards El Niño, which favours drier and hotter conditions. In these warmer seasons, we adjust our practices to encourage slightly higher yields and more canopy cover. However, the unexpected summer rainfall in December and January presented a unique challenge, resulting in larger bunches and berry development. Warm conditions prevailed through February and early March, promoting ripening of flavours and sugars with the balance we were aiming for. The warmth led to an intense couple of weeks, during which we harvested the majority of the grapes.
