Tasting Notes

Appearance

Crimson with ruby hues, displaying excellent clarity and depth of colour that hints at the wine's concentration and careful winemaking.

Aroma

Exotic spice and rosemary envelope the nose with a lifted current of juicy cherry, red berries and bright pomegranate. The aromatic profile reveals the wine's cool-climate origins and whole-bunch fermentation influence.

Palate

Layers of anise and five spice envelope the structured palate and intertwine with intense black plum and juicy dark cherries. Bright red berry acidity and graceful tannins ensure this is a wine with silky texture and persistent length, showcasing the purity and elegance that defines premium Tasmanian Pinot Noir.

Pairs With

This versatile Pinot Noir complements roasted duck breast, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, aged cheddar, charcuterie boards and slow-cooked lamb shoulder, whilst its silky texture and bright acidity make it equally enjoyable on its own.

Cellaring: Will reward careful cellaring of seven to ten years.

Reviews

"I remember a winemaker friend telling me to keep an eye on these guys a while back. In recent years, Lowestoft has become one of the high flyers on the Tassie wine scene. I owe that man a beer. This beautifully made wine is sourced from the Fogarty Group's vineyards in the state. Pure red cherry and berry fruits, spice laden, complex and composed, the 2022 release impresses with its seamless extended finish and length of flavour."

Winemaking Notes

Small parcels were hand-picked from the prestigious Lowestoft estate vineyard in the Derwent Valley as well as the East Coast and Huon Valley. Batches fermented separately in open-top fermenters with up to 25% whole bunch fruit included, a technique that contributes aromatic lift and structural complexity. Gentle hand plunging and occasional pump-overs produced bright concentrated colour and lifted perfume whilst preserving the delicate fruit character. The wine matured individually in large format French oak (30% new) for 10 months prior to blending and bottling with minimal fining and filtration, ensuring the wine's natural texture and flavour integrity remain intact.

Vintage Conditions

The 2022 vintage in Tasmania delivered ideal conditions for Pinot Noir production across the state's premium cool-climate regions. The Derwent Valley, East Coast and Huon Valley sites each contributed distinct characteristics to the final blend, with the Derwent Valley providing the wine's structural backbone and aromatic intensity. Cool nights and moderate daytime temperatures during the growing season allowed for extended hang time, developing concentrated flavours whilst preserving the bright natural acidity that defines exceptional Tasmanian Pinot Noir. The vintage produced wines of remarkable purity, elegance and ageing potential, with Lowestoft's meticulous vineyard management and selective hand-harvesting capturing the very best parcels from each site.
