The Wynns 2019 Black Label Cabernet has a nose of pure Cabernet fruit. Fresh and inviting aroma of red and black cherries. Dried mint and fresh violets add floral lift. A perfect amalgam of freshness, balance and power that will certainly reward good cellaring. A seamless line of fruit from our terra rossa vineyards is supported by a fine tannin framework. Flavours of red cherry and plum are complimented by the secondary notes of walnuts and mixed cooking spice. Very intense yet elegant

Winery & Vintage Info

Wynns Black Label Cabernet is a true icon of Australian wine. First produced in 1954, it has a reputation for ageing gracefully and displaying excellent varietal and regional characteristics. The wine is produced from only the top quality 20 to 25 per cent of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in our terra rossa vineyards.

A wine of style and stature - and a perennial favourite in auction circles - ‘Black Label’ is one of Australia’s most collectable wines and Australia’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon. It consistently delivers potential for medium to long-term cellaring.

14 months in new (31%) and seasoned French oak. 61% Hogsheads, 26% barriques, 13% vats. Winery Notes

Reviews

"The 64th vintage. A wine of provenance. A wine of excellence. It ages superbly, yet is flattering when young. Perfect fruit at its core, with gentle flavours of cassis, blackberries and blueberries. It has depth, length and line, thanks to the fine, detailed tannins. Classy cabernet. This is up there as one of the finest to date. Bravo."

"Oh, it does the heart good to see this wine singing such a beautiful tune these days. It remains one of my favourite Aussie cabernets for so many reasons – history and quality are two, but then there is how it almost mirrors my own journey in wine from the time I first tasted one of these. In fact I have been fortunate to have participated in vertical tastings of every wine back to that seminal 1954, and they remain among my most cherished memories in Australian wine. This has a beautiful seductive cherry and red berry aroma augmenting the cassis of Coonawarra cabernet. The palate delivers high energy and brightness as it drives to an effortlessly long finish. Highly polished and elegant with a suave poise. These wines cellar for decades if you wish."

"Deep colour. A beautifully balanced cool-climate cabernet with crushed blackcurrants, mulberries, hints of cedar and underlying roasted walnut, vanilla, herb notes. Inky textured wine with plentiful smooth cassis, mulberry fruits, fine grained, slightly al dente textures and attractive cedar spice notes. Finishes grainy firm with plentiful sweet blackcurrant vanilla notes. The acidity runs neatly along the palate giving the wine attractive mineral length. A classic Coonawarra Claret style with the density, amplitude and vigour for medium to long term cellaring. A very good vintage; the 64th in this series!"
