Wild Duck Creek Grandpa Duck Cabernet Shiraz 2021 from Heathcote offers a complex bouquet of choc-mint ice cream, blackcurrant, mulberry, anise, and cinnamon, accented by red cherry and subtle earthy notes of brick dust and paperbark. This wine is fragrant and gently spicy, delivering a succulent, soft, and velvety texture. Its opulent yet fresh character balances generosity with elegance, creating a silky, unctuous palate that is both comforting and distinctive. A sophisticated choice that combines classic richness with unexpected charm and finesse.

"This is a tribute from winemaker Liam Anderson to his father, David, from neighbouring vineyards, blended to the style on hand. French and American oak employed. This release is 140 dozen.

Lots of choc-mint ice cream, pulpy blackcurrant, mulberry, anise, cinnamon, and a lift of red cherry, almost maraschino, and then some brick dust and paperbark tree bark. Very fragrant, a touch spicy, succulent, soft, flowing, thick and yet comforting in its opulent and surprisingly fresh flow. Wonderfully balanced in its potency and generosity, silky, velvety, unctuous and darn good. It ticks a lot of boxes, and yet out of the box too, and a style that the sardonic and somewhat hip seem obtuse to. And yet it finds a groove, and appeal, and massive charm. Away we go."

Winery & Vintage Info

Grandpa Duck Cabernet Shiraz is a special wine made in honour of our founder David Anderson, affectionately known as Grandpa Duck to his four grandchildren. Davidโ€™s favourite varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, so what better excuse than to create a wine in his honour using his two favourite grapes. Itโ€™s also a celebration of his now more than 50 years in the wine industry.

Made using the most intensely flavoured and structured Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from the Rathjen Vineyard, the wine spends 26-30 months in new French and American oak hogsheads before being blended and bottled.
