The 2019 Voyager Estate Chardonnay has a pale straw colour, with aromas of sweet lemon, grapefruit, white flowers, and toastiness. The palate is fine, with vibrant citrus, cashew, and spice that is complex with a mineral finish.

Reviews

"Voyager Estate is one of the more lavish yet affable cellar door experiences in Margaret River. Good architecture, fine surrounds. Always like a visit there. Attractive chardonnay straight out of the dictionary. Scents of lemon, lemon blossom, nougat, vanilla, flint and clove-cinnamon spice. Soft in the palate but bright and flavoursome at once. Crisp stone fruits, green apple, more of the nougat and exotic spice of the bouquet. Rolls quietly, fresh, long over the tongue. Feels classy but also truly gulpable. And refreshing. Gives you good essence of grape flavour." 93 Points - Mike Bennie, The WIne Front, July 2021, Drink: 2021 - 2030

Winery & Vintage Info

At Voyager Estate, 2019 was an unusually cool, late season with below average January temperatures contributing to a two-week delay in harvest. Moderate weather was perfect for steady ripening, with slow sugar accumulation, flavour development and acid retention. Challenges included bird pressure and untimely humidity, however our meticulously and organically farmed vines produced outstanding wines.

The Chardonnay fruit was hand harvested at 12.0-13.0 Baumé, cooled overnight then whole-bunch pressed and transferred to French oak barrel for natural fermentation. 39% underwent malolactic fermentation to build texture and lower natural acidity. It was aged for ten months in oak barriques, undergoing regular bâtonnage prior to blending in November and bottling in January 2020.

“A fine-boned, contemporary Chardonnay. Bright with fresh citrus, a subtle savouriness and a clean saline mineral edge. Striving for elegance, balance and the ability to get even better with age. Tended by hand using organic farming practises.” - Steve James, Head Of Viticulture & Winemaking
